Should you eat shrimp?!

Question: People have asked whether they should eat shrimp, especially when they are pregnant.

The answer is no, pregnant or not.

Understand this: most shrimp sold in the US comes from shrimp farms. which are fetid pools of water rife with shrimp excrement and loaded with antibiotics.

The environmental cost of these "farms" is enormous, but I leave it to you to research that.

Well, I would agree, especially after seeing a documentery where they showed how tilapia was farmed. The tilapia (a popular fish for eating) is grown in canals of waste water. The tilapia help absorb the waste in the water as they eat and help clean the water, which is what the water is there for, because the facility is also a waste water treatment plant. At one end, there is metal fence, which is the width of the canal, that workers can push to the other end. As the fence is pushed through the canal, smaller tilapia can get through the holes in the fence, while the larger tilapia, large enough for human consumption, cannot. The larger tilapia are thus trapped at one end of the canal, removed, and sent to market for sale to the public.
YUCK!!!
After I saw that, I decided I would pass on the tilapia. Now, after reading your description of farmed shrimp, I think I'll pass on that too.

well I dont live in USA... I eat shrimp the local fisherman get from the sea around us...

this is stupid. EVERYTHING humans eat farmed or not is affecting the environment; not just just shrimp. even if we actually go out to the ocean and fish for shrimp we harm the environment. we cant even go fishing for (lets say tuna) without effecting dolphins, sea turtles, sharks, etc. and yes i know theres the "dolphin safe" stuff but it really doesn't matter because those fishing methods dont apply for turtles, sharks, etc.

so is this a question?

Don't eat shrimp!!!!!

(Leave more for me.)

Should you eat shrimp? If you believe in reincarnation well, the shrimp you contemplate eating may be an ancestor. Would you eat your ancestor?

even if the shrimp are not farm raised and caught in open waters, shrimp by nature are bottom feeders, scavengers, which makes them unclean to some degree anyway. catfish and lobster also spend their lives perusing the ocean floor. add to the category of unclean animals, pork and chicken. that doesn't leave much, unless you become vegetarian.
so is this a moral issue or a health issue?

not all shrimp sold in america is farm raised, but i leave it to you to research that.
