Ready meals, your opinion?!

Question: Why do ready meals taste bland? I dont have them often, about once a fortnight, but sometimes after a long day at work they are so much easier than slaving away at a stove. Im eating an asda beef lasagne but it doesnt taste of much and has hardly any beef in, probably 5-10%. the bechamel and tomato sauces taste unremarkable! Can anyone recommend a nice one?
Asda's chicken curry was surprisingly nice though!

Look, if you eat ready meals from that shite hole Asda expect them to taste like dog food! M and S and Sainsbury's meals are a tiny bit more expensive but at least they are edible. The Sainsbury Super Natural meals are lovely. Especially the salmon ones.

avoid it better....

ewwwww,discusting!

Because they are ready meals and you only shove them in the Microwave/Oven you don't cook them from scratch like everything else, thery're obviously gona taste different.
xD

I never eat ready meals, it looks like aeroplane food in it's little plastic tray, i dont enjoy eating them

Asda's own brand stuff can be poor, I'm told. Pay a little more for your food and you will get better quality. There are some really good ready meals out there!

it would take you aprox 15 mins to rustle up something tastey from your larder never buy them waste of money and health wise thay are laden with too many chemicals

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Lasagna is passable

why not make your own in advance and freeze them? thats what they do and they don't put enough flavous in you also can see what your putting in it

ready meals are handy as they are ready to eat if you havent much time to cook a proper meal the spar do some good ones for when i'm at work

I like to cook but when I am really tired or, seldomly, when I am alone in the house, I like to open one of the RTE meals used by the US army. They are filling, nutriocious, suprisingly tasty and give that feeling of adventure.

I do know what you mean. I get them occasionally when I can't be bothered cooking and they do always taste bland. I always wish I hadn't bothered. I have come across the steam meals though and quite like them. The salmon is usually really nice!

dont get the better buy stuff its just cheap n nasty get things like morrisons best n stuff they taste really good especially after a long day of work. thanks, charley.

I don't think you can ever beat Marks & Spencers for food.

Like with most things in life, the more you spend the more quality you get. I never use ready meals, but I recently wasn't able to cook and we had a couple from Sainsburys: shin of beef and beef stroganoff, I was amazed how good they tasted.

Ready meals really are not worth it, they are packed with salt and additives.

If you need to get your self a quick meal try a baked potato in the microwave with baked beans and cheese
Salad with anything you can find; tuna cheese, bacon prawns etc..
Omlette with loads of stir fried veg
or even pilchards on toast is better you.

Try cooking 2 or three things from scratch when you have the time and freeze them for when you just don't have the time to cook. I'm going to cook three portions of Lancashire hotpot tomorrow.

I only ever eat them if im desperate, or if im offered one at someone else's home I may take one to be polite.
The majority of them are disgusting, and contain the worst ingredients, that's why they are so cheap.
I always feel ill after eating one.

They are so full of salt too which isn't good for you.
Why don't you make a huge batch of lasagne or your favourite meal when you have some time on your hands and freeze individual portions so you can sling them in the microwave or oven when you can't be bothered to or don't have the time to make dinner? That way you can control what is put in it and how it tastes. I do this with Thai Green Curry and sometimes it tastes better than it does when it is made fresh!
