Is there a candy equivalent for toothpicks?!

Question: i have to do this project for a DNA/RNA model, and i'm making it out of candy. i really want to to be able to hold the base pairs together with a candy, but none of them are hard enough. should i just use toothpicks?

This time of year you might be able to find chocolate covered candy sticks, but they won't be as thin as a toothpick. If you want to keep it edible you can try using uncooked spaghetti or pretzel sticks (not rods). You can even cover the sticks in chocolate!
