When are avocados past their prime and should be thrown out?!
When I cut them open it is beginning to streak with brown (especially at the end where the stem was) but it is still mostly green. Are they still edible? (They taste fine.)
At what point is an avocado too ripe and should be tossed?
Answers: I purchased a bag of avocados and have been eating them, but apparently not fast enough - they've become very soft, slightly wrinkled, and it seems that the meat of the avocado is pulling away from it's outer skin.

If I have one that has dark spots or streaks, I cut that part away and use the other but its because I don't like the looks of the dark part. I don't think it will hurt you.
Watch for one that has begun to sprout from the end. You can grow a nice house plant with it. Put three toothpicks evenly spaced around the middle. Balance on a glass with the root end in water. Keep water at level to it wet. Put in window with bright light but no sun until well sprouted.
Here's a fun fact. The word avocado comes from the Aztec word ahuacatl, which means testicle, because of the similar appearance.
That aside, they are going bad but aren't necessarily going to make you sick. I probably wouldn't keep eating them though.
You can probably make it into guacamole!!!!
I agree, guacamole would be great. With avocados I go by taste not color. A little lemon juice works wonders.
