How do you get rid of the leftover grease when you're cooking?!

Question: Like if you fry up hamburger in a frying pan... then when you drain the grease, what is the safest and cleanest way to get rid of it?

well all the asnwers so far are a variation of a theme

but i do something different with mine, and so do loads of others here is Scotland, its so cold that we put it into empty clean yogurt pots and drop in a piece of string, let it harden, pop it out and hang it from a tree, birds go crazy for it and its good for them in the winter, we add seeds and nuts to it too before it hardens

trash it

I let it harden in the pan. Then scrape it off into the garbage.

we pour it into a glass jar and let it dry. we keep letting it layer up until the jar is full, then we throw it away. Do not pour it down the sink!!

Save the container that the meat comes in and after the grease has cooled a little bit, pour it into the tray/container and discard in the trash can. Never pour it down the sink because it will clog it up.

Use hot water in cleaning the frying pan.

Soak it up with the bun. Why waste the taste?

I have an old coffee jar I keep under the kitchen sink. I dump it in there and when it's almost full I cap it and throw it away.

In a metal can

I pour it into an empty tin can, let it harden, then throw the can away.

These are the only cans I throw away into the garbage. I recycle everything else.

I pour it into a can, let it harden and throw it away. Never put it down the drain.

For small amounts of grease like that, I just put a swirl of dish detergent in the pan, mix it around (it breaks down all that grease) then wash it down the drain. I've never had any problems.

Let it cool.
Place it in a container and throw it out with the trash.
(Old coffee cans or funnel the grease back into an empty oil container.)

your suppose to pour it into a cup and toss it in the fridge to cool it enough to make it hard. then toss it in the trash. never pour it down your drain.

hahah i like to keep my bacon grease in a jar (it solidifies white) and then use that when i make eggs, just take a spoon full and put it on the pan and fry up the eggs. its not completely healthy but its tasty.

but on the subject of getting rid of the grease, i agree with the gerneral consensus. put it in a can (one with a lid maybe preferable to seal any smells in) then throw it out when it gets full or close to full

I take it in the bathroom and flush the toilet and as soon as the water is getting ready to go down i hurry and dump in with the spatula, then wait for toilet tank to fill again, and wipe it with toilet paper and repeat,or if you got a empty can or jar dump in there and wipe pan and flush the paper, then wash the pan.

Lots of good suggestions here..I feed the rendered grease to the various livestock...The dogs love it and it helps their coats be shiny and water repellant.
It is also a good dietary supplement for the hog feed.

Between dogs and hogs, I have no worry about disposing the renderings.

keep a large jar in the kitchen and pour all extra grease into it. when it is full, throw it out. save bacon grease seperate. you can reuse it. have you ever had eggs fried in bacon grease? oh, so yummy

Technically the best is to compost it. Failing that putting it in the garbage after it has cooled is best. Some people prefer to pour the hot grease into a glass jar or can first to let it harden. However as glass and cans should be recycled I'm not sold on this practice.
