What does it mean when an egg smells faintly of fish?!

Your eggs are safe to eat, although you may not be a fan of the smell. Let me explain the odor. The fishy egg is a known phenomenon in egg production.
Certain breeds of chickens, particularly, but not limited to those that lay brown eggs, have a gene that converts fatty acids in their diet to compounds that smell fishy. A second possible reason is because in the past few years, it has become popular to produce eggs that are higher in Omega-3 fatty acids. This can be done by feeding chickens fish meal and other high-omega-3 foodstuffs, which can impart a fishy odor to the eggs.
If your eggs are unpleasant, I suggest taking the time to return them to the store, and to contact the egg producer and tell them you have noticed a problem. This smell is not considered an acceptable quality by most egg producers. Buy a different brand of eggs for awhile.
it's bad...you should through it away. Unless your just talking about how all boils eggs smell, thats just the way they smell....I guess it has something to do with a gas not being able to release out of the shell or something

egg shells are pourous and if u have fish near the eggs it's just picked up some of the fish aroma. u may want to consider throwing out the fish. if no fish the eggs are history

Lots of factory farmed chickens are fed with fishmeal. If you buy organic eggs you probably won't get any fishy smell.
probably means not to eat it! no really might mean the chicken was eating fish or something like that, when we raised chickens we were told not to feed them apples or onions because the eggs would taste like apples or onions if we did.

throw the bad one out ,just because it's from the same carton doesn't mean they're all bad not everything expires at the same time
