How do you keep cookies from spreading?!


Question: I have this cookie dough mix in a bag and it always spreads! Is there something I'm donig wrong or something I can do to prevent them from coming flat and very large?

Refrigerate the dough, so that it's firmer when placed on the cookie trays.

use egg rings?...

cookies generally spread when cooking i'm afraid. perhaps you're putting too much fat (butter or oil) in the mix so they're spreading too much?

actually, i don't really know what's wrong with big, flat cookies....

perhaps if they do still spread too much, you just put the mixture in one big try altogether and then just cut it up when it's baked! then you can get cookies the size you like :)

Use cookie sheets that are room temp, not one you've just pulled out of the oven.

Instead of butter or margarine that have a high water content try using vegetable shortening some brands claim to have 0 trans fat
