What is the difference between an English Cucumber and a regular store bought cucumber?!

Question: And why are they always sealed wrapped in plastic?

The difference I can taste is that they are more dense and sweeter than most store bought ones.
Is that due to less water content?

~ English cucumbers are less bitter because they have less seeds than a regular cucumber (seeds are what make a cucumber bitter).

~ English cucumbers are usually not waxed, so you don't have to peel them.

~ English cucumber seeds are smaller and less prominent.

~ English cucumbers are more easily digested.

I got my information from here:
http://www.ochef.com/189.htm

A cucumber is a cucumber. There may be slight difference depending on the strain etc. As with tomatoes home grown ones always seem to taste better probably because they are fresher. Cucumbers are wrapped in plastic to keep them fresh and the shelf life is longer

the regular cucumber has alot more seeds in it with a somewhat bitter taste, and the english cuke is a more milder (better) tasting...considered "burpless" . lol
Anyway.. hope that helps

An English one has less seeds, is real long, thin, and burpless, unlike the other one that stays with you all day!
