Chili with no beans? What's the Point of That?!

Question: I went to a chili Cook Off. To my shock, any of the entries for the "Best Chili" entry had to be without beans! Beans are the only thing actually GOOD for you in chili! Why would I want chili without beans?

And I noticed most of the people there did a pretty fair imitation of the Goodyear Blimp. Gee, go figure, lousy eating habits = morbid obesity.

Beans are the only good thing in chili D:<

I agree.

Real chili has no beans.

yeah pretty ridiculous.
go sneak some beans in and see what happens =D

Yes, definitely lousy eating habits. The Beans, is what makes it good and healthy.

lol, geez, I know right.`

and don't skimp on the sour cream or shredded cheese

chili with NO BEANS?? truly you were among the heathen! I bet they served this with non alcoholic beer too!

man how LIBERAL has america SUNK??? next thing you know blazing saddles will have the farting edited out!

Beans make you have the bad gas. What is better than gas free chili? This question is retarded

Its called a chili cook off not a chili bean cook off.

Beans give some people gas...Cincinnati style chili is generally served without beans

Well, if it is a big TV SHOW, then chili with no beans is preferable, because beans cause gas, and that would be SOOO Embarrassing!

If you put beans in the chili in Texas, they will put your butt in jail. Against state laws of chili cooking.

I like beans in mine so when I visit Texas I make sure I reach for the beans usually on the side.

i guess dont put beans in your chili if you dont like them and if you do add them but i agree beans are 1 of the best things in chili

Well if you think about it - and given the girths of the people at the chili-cookoff - beans would create a lot of flatulence, which could potentially impact global warming.

I think it's a very wise decision to ban beans at such events.

Thats an insult to all the Mexicans out there.

This is a matter of tradition. According to cowboy lore beans were never put in Chili. Beans were a separate dish. However my blue ribbon Texas chili not only has beans but two types of bean. Dark red and light red kidney beans to be exact. I also chop up my cheese and throw it in just before I turn the fire off. Hope this helps.

I think it's mostly a regionality thing. Supposedly "real" chili has no beans. But I wouldn't eat it. Bring on the chili with beans!

Chili packaged with neither beans nor meat allows the cook to add their own preferences at preperation time. It harks back to a time when prepared ingredients were stored separately to allow for a wider variety of end products.

it's also easier to eat on a burger or hot dog

I agree. I love beans in chili

Obviously ignorant of chilli cookoffs. Competition chilli has no beans. Way back in the days of the cattle drives when real chilli comes from the beans were cooked seperately. This is why there are no beans. You can mix the beans in if you want. I like beans in my chilli.
And chilli is not bad for you, bad chilli is bad for you.

I agree i like the beans too but if i'm having hotdog on a bun w/chili leave off the beans, but add some real good slaw--then you have what is called a chili slaw dog & its just great.I have eaten them at the Varsity in Atlanta & they are addictive.

Apparently a "true" chili has no beans.
