Why is it.....?!

Question: Why is it when we slice onions we cry?

Answers: Why is it when we slice onions we cry?

There is a lacrimating enzyme in the onions that is released when sliced. Try chilling the onions first.

because of our sense of smell and the smell of the onions. our nose reacts to the smell of the onion and it sends a message to our brain to cry

its the sulfer in the onion. when its gets to your eyes it kills nasty bugs and bacteria! and all the bacteria leaves our body WITH the tears.

The onion contains a chemical, that is released when the onion is sliced open, that causes irritation and a burning or stinging sensation to the eyes. The eyes "cry" and use tears to cleanse and remove the irritant (chemical).

I don't know. Maybe because there is a certin recipe for it to make us cry.

Thinking of all the dishes we'll have to do after eating!

i wish i knew the answer to that, but i slice and dice my onions under cold running water,it helps a little.
