Have you noticed that corn syrup is in almost every food that is packaged or processed?!
If you want to get away from it, you need to start making your own food where you can, and shop at stores that carry things like bread without it.
The FDA isn't in the business of saying anything about ingredients that aren't "harmful". Plus, they are in the business of supporting business when they can. So, don't look to government. Look to your own shopping habits and choices. If enough people stop buying the junk, that will drive the makers to change...or go out of business.
Answers: Yep. Cheap and ultra sweet, corn syrup is a major contributor to our nation's rampant addiction to sweets. They put it in everything, beyond stuff you would think would make sense, like sugary cereals, soda pop, or baked goods. You'll find it in salsa, ketchup, seasonings (like steak rubs), rice dishes...you name it...it's in most pre-packaged foods.

Except Corn!
its the #1 sweetner corn so cheap to crow as cash crop
perservative....just like sodium earthbate ( dried up worms))
why yes i have.
Yes, it is which is why one of my top New Year's resolution is to not eat processed foods.
Yes, and it's a pain in the butt. No wonder Americans keep getting fatter.
I bought some chicken salad from a deli not long ago . . . and yes, I noticed that that was one of the ingredients. Very irritating when this is supposed to be a low-cal, healthy meal. :P
its also used as a preservative and in some packaging...,my sister is allergic to corn products and BELIEVE me it is very hard to find anything that is corn free...
thats a corny question lol. well, I think corn syrup is taking over the planet. It'll be a hot button topic in the political debates, and maybe we'll invade corn syrup as a military response.
Have you noticed that now, the most common allergin is CORN?
It's because many years ago, the largest agricultural supply company, I believe it was ConAgra, decided that corn syrup was cheaper than sugar. It was a huge deal back then, but they worked with virtually every company that used large amounts of sugar in their products, particularly soda companies, and soon everyone was using corn syrup. Ask any 'old timer; if soda, notably 'Coke' tastes different than it did 20-25 years ago.
Yes, it is in America, but not elsewhere - that's part of why we're so fat - hidden sugar calories in our food.
yes
Yes, and that high fructose corn syrup is a big contributor to the increase in diabetes. It hardly even needs to be digested. Pretty small molecule that is instantly absorbed straight into the blood stream.
We have taken to refusing to buy anything that has the stuff in it. We either find a substitute brand (some of the all-natural stuff but read the label) or make our own or do without.
Surprisingly many people (Americans) do not pay attention to product labels. Often understandably, They do not understand the ingredients. Manufacturers have not made much effort in disclosing ingredients in plain English or making labels easier to understand. Your point is quite valid. Corn Syrup. much like other cheap sweeteners, is ubiquitous in processed foods. Sodium is also very high in processed foods.
From a basic nutritional perspective, stay away from canned goods and processed food. Try to buy frozen vegetables and cook from scratch. It is sometimes more expensive to do so, but our health priceless?
Kudos to you for noticing. I encourage you to continue to see the terrible health consequences the average American diet has.
It's because it's cheaper. Look for all natural and organic snacks. Jones Soda uses real cane sugar to sweeten their sodas and you can really taste the difference. It doesn't give me a headache like Coke does either.
Here are the two most informative books about the politics, health, and marketing of this silent, orchestrated peril. I very highly recommend them. They will answer your question, "What is the FDA thinking?" (Hint, they're not worried about you and me).

Genetically modified syrup you mean, Since the advent of GM products it is necessary to keep up the intake otherwise you will return to normal and start to question the ethics behind it, you are being controlled by the dietitians and other slack jawed numpties who work for large multi national companies and governments which amounts to be about the same. Soon, very, very soon you will be called to the processing plant to be 'Used' they will need the extra eye and ear that you are growing, the rest of you will just be 'processed'. Rod Taylor in 'The Time Machine' came very close to being processed, those underground critters where not actors....they were real. Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh, they are coming to take you away ha ha.
