Is canned fish healthy?!

Question: Is canned fish e.g. tunafish, healthy? If it says on the can it doesn`t contain any additives or preservatives, would it still be as healthy as fresh fish? My friends say canned food is generally unhealthy, but is there an exception?

Canned fish can be VERY healthy for you .... they are a great source of Omega-3's - almost, if not the same, as fresh, believe it or not. Plus sardines can be healthy too - I found you a great link to an article from CNN that will give you a lot more info...

People do not eat nearly enough fish in their diets, and if you are adding canned fish to yours, you are in a much healthier spot than most of your friends! lol!

It's probably wild tuna, so in general, I'd say it's pretty healthy.
Although with most fish these days, they tend to have a higher Mercury content in their fat. So eating tuna which is higher in fat than most other fish means consuming a good amount of mercury. As long as you dont eat it everyday you should be ok though.

no

Let's face it. If it's canned, it's not gonna be as gd as fresh. Imagine the meat has been dead for much longer than if it were fresh from the market. That doesn't sound too good already does it?

Maybe if you have to, get those tuna in brine or mineral water instead of in oil. That will be healthier. =)

Yup, its healthy.
