You would probably be ok in the winter. A refrigerator should be kept at 40F Most people probably don't want to keep it that cold since it is expensive to run so I be they keep it closer to 45F which shortens the shelf life of some foods. Any warmer than that and you are asking for trouble. So I don't know what you can do in the spring and summer. If you live in the northern US you would be ok for the winter. By the way sometimes your food will get colder than 40F and that's ok. Most food won't freeze until well below 30F. If it gets that cold some food don't freeze and thaw well.
Good Luck

34 degrees to 42 degrees

Cold is cold, I don't see that it makes any difference how the cold environment is maintained.

I have my refrigerator set to 32 degrees. Maintaining that temperature outside year round will be difficult. If the temperatures get too low, your food will freeze. If they get too high then your food will spoil.

Yes, you can safely store your food out doors as long as the temp stays below 40 degrees, which is the proper refridgerator temp.

all food needs to be stored below 40 degrees

no it's not weird at all it's kinda cool.. the safety zone on temps for food is from 40-150 degrees Fahrenheit.. i don't see any reason why you couldn't store food like that. as long as you put a little snow or ice on your meat. but just rember to watch out for bears or raccoons

we used to have an old house built in 1797, they have a lot of character but can also be a LOT of work to maintain.

as for your question, a fridge is usually kept around 40 degrees F, so as long as you maintain the temp at or close to 40 you should be ok. if it gets any higher than 50, you don't want to store meat in there or bacteria will proliferate.

Food should be kept at a constant 38 degrees - you can use an Ice box (like they did in the 1800's) it is a box to store foods like milk and other perishables that you place a block of ice in a second box on top (here is a picture:http://www.stevensauction.com/8mar/pages... I bought a fridge a year ago and the recommended temperature is 37F. (About 5C)
