Crazy question about Liverworst.?!

Question: Ok.My grandma was from Austria.I am now 38 and was born and raised in the USA.My grandma always gave us a Liverworst sandwich on ryebread with ketchup. So,most Americans don't like liverworst as it is so where did the ryebread and ketchup come in?Anyone from Austria or elsewhere ever heard of such a combination of ingrediants?
P.S. I do like to eat this once and a while.

my siginificant others mother was in her 70s and she loved Liverwurst on rye with Ketchup , she said they ate it a lot in Wisconsin and her parents were from germany, and I think Austria is really close to Germany so it must be an old Bavarian Snack... Ask your Grandmother is she like pototaoe dumplings, which the Norweigians called Klub.. it's just ground raw potatoes one cup of ground potatoes, to two cups of flour . a small tad of cornstarch so the balls stick together , boil for 30 minutes.. if she liked this dish as well or had it as a kid .. my guess is that both these 2 dishes were from the same area

Hi, I am not sure about Rye bread, but would assume that it is similar to the German Bread which is very dark. It is quite often eaten with Leberwurst in Germany

Hmmm, I'm not sure about that version, but my mom always made liverwurst sandwiches with mayonnaise and pickle relish. Not bad, I must say. Even with sliced gherkins instead of relish, or even mayonnaise alone.
I know some people like liverwurst with onion, though.
