Today a customer called me a piece of garbage lol?!
Answers: Today I was working at the smoothie shop at the mall and some guy in his 50s came with his little kid and ordered a drink. He fed his kid too much boba (tapioca balls that are on the bottom of the drink) so he wanted to spit it out, so the guy grabbed one the the size display cups and puts it to his son's mouth to let him spit it out. I tell him "no no wait I'll give you tissues" and gave him a wad of tissues and All the sudden he starts yelling "whats so wrong about spitting in the cup and then yelled your a piece of work!!!!!" Then he wiped his son's mouth and the tissues were covered with spit n smoothie and screamed at ME to throw it away when the trash can was a few feet from him. So I pointed at the trash can that he can throw it away n that I'm not touching it cuz it was covered with his son's spit so then he started screaming "your a piece of garbage!!" That guy was so angry it seemed like he was going hit me, no joke.
HAHAH!!! yeah something similar happened to me when i used to work at Apple bee's with a customer not wanting to go to the rest room when he said he wanted to puke. He asked to get him a thrash can but i asked if he needed help to the restroom. His buddy and girlfriend got up and started yelling at me calling me a worthless piece of Sh-it and a loser... Yeah i was 17 at the time but anyway. His buddy was up on my face and shoved me really hard and i almost fell. and when i regained my balance he rushed me but Me being a proud Mu tay student kicked the side of left knee and he fell to the ground pretty hard.. LOL!!! then he threatened to sue the restaurant because i touched him, but he touched me first. Anyway the drunk dude gets up and runs to the restroom like i had mentioned in the first place. So my shift supervisor runs to me and tells me to go to the back and he asks the people if they're okay and eventually the cops came and made a report. Not for me though because i had many witnesses telling the cops that it was self defense like i claimed. yeah, i didn't press charges or anything but yeah that's my story.. now I'm not saying next time kick your customers but you need to realize that there's only so many things people can take from stupid customers. Just relax and try to stay calm, you're too good to stoop down to their level........ I hope this helps, if not then i hope you enjoyed a passage from my "the Chronicles of Rick"

I think I would have smiled falsely at him and said "merry christmas" to him in a really sarcastic voice. Sometimes being really nice to an obnoxious customer is better than cursing them, after all, they cant sack you for wishing someone happy christmas can they?!
there is no excuse for this kind of behaviour
everyone is a tad stressed at this time of year
and people should appreciate those who have to work, and provide services this close to the holidays

Yes, it has. And I've seen it happen to others frequently.
Apparently, the poor man was horribly frustrated/angry/distraught and took it out on you. I'm proud of you that you didn't escalate hostilities by yelling back.
I've often been in lines behind people who treated clerks like that, and apologized on their behalf to the clerk when my turn came. I wanted to make the clerk realize that it wasn't her/his fault, that the customer was behaving badly and that others realized he/she was doing a good job.
Don't take it personally, and don't let it ruin your day and above all - DON'T pass that negativity on to other customers! It's not their fault, either.
Take a deep breath, feel compassion for the upset person, then move on with a smile.
Life will get a whole lot worse than that, so the more you practice now, the easier the rest of your life will be!

People are crazy... I've had my patients yell at me with all sorts of exciting names that I won't type here ... I had one screaming hysterically at me because she was dizzy and I thought her sugar was low and wanted to check it and she absolutely refused and made a huge scene and even threw her clipboard and questionnaire at me! When I had the doctor come in she called us both frauds and that our licences "outta be voked" and that she was not going to let us prick her finger. 4 hours later she went into a diabetic coma in her sleep so i got to wheel her on down to the ED ... at least she can't complain if she's unresponsive.
My wife used to work in a bank, and she found the easiest way of dealing with pigs like that was to smile sweetly and thank them for dropping in.
Used to annoy the hell out of them when they couldn't get a "bite", and they couldn't complain to management about the service either!
I surely don't see what the difference was about spiting in the cup it was probably the closest thing, I would'nt of said anything and he probably had a rough day the way it was. you said display cup was that the only one? or could you just of set another one out? but it was wrong of him to say that though
OK...first, it was him....NOT you. Second, just because you're in a service profession, doesn't translate to slave or open to abuse. And lastly, don't let his ignorant "holiday rage" taint your holiday.I am a nurse, work in an ER & get ranted at almost daily for things beyond my control. People can be rude,nasty,arrogant & totally ignorant....but I have to smile & try to make them happy. This guy wasn't going to be a treat even if you handed him a million dollars...he was ripe & ready to rage at anyone for something that probably happened to him before he got there.....also, the display cup can be replaced.....the tissues picked up sanitarily & disposed of....the guy smiled at & his insults dismissed.....because if you take this incident to heart.....you are giving someone who shouldn't have it...the power to hurt you & change who you are.....so, just smile.....clean up after & dismiss people like this.......and think, he probably has a rotten life because of his rage & attitude(but that doesn't mean you have to)...if not now, he will when that kid grows up just like him!

The customer is not always right. What a stupid policy. People working in the service industry are not there to be abused.
some ppl are just rude do you know what i mean, i used to work in a shop to and customers are horrible! now i make it my business to be nice to store assistants because i know how they feel, problem is ya gotta let it go or u might lose your job, just if he comes back in again ask someone else to serve him coz you dont think you will be able to keep quiet this tme, and its not worth losing ya job over. but wot a jerk!!!

I always make a point of being pleasant to people in the service industry. They have a hard life, it's very stressful having to stay pleasant when customers treat them like sh*t, and they work long hours for little money.
