When making pasta, does it really do any good to add salt and oil to the water. Oil and water does'nt mix .!
Answers: I know the answer, but do you ? Tell me why you think your answer is correct.
No oil has no effect on the pasta. It's the amount of water you put into the pan. You need to add enough water so the pasta has room to move around and cook, this causes the pasta not to stick together. Oil keeps the water form foaming up and boiling over. Salt just adds flavor to the water for the pasta.
The oil is just to make sure the pasta doesn't stick together. It creates a barrier on the pasta. Salt brings out the natural flavor of the pasta.
the oil stops the pasta from sticking...
i always thought putting oil in was to keep the water from boiling over....
I was always told just to add salt to the water. The actual action of the water boiling and ocassional stirring will keep the pasta from sticking together.
yup. Even though you cant really notice it. Like my mother says: "add it b/c even though it doesnt have a outstanding taste, if u dont put it you feel like there's something missing"
keep that quote if you like to cook. That's what i do.
Some chefs etc advocated a while back that you add oil or even milk to the cooking water to prevent the pasta sticking together. Most people have discovered that this is not necessary, especially if you use a reasonably good quality durum pasta. I always salt the water, but that is just my personal preference.
Yes, use salt. Please do not use oil, it prevents the pasta from holding on to the sauce like it should. You want to season the water with salt to help flavor the pasta
The oil makes the pasta slippery so the sauce will not stick.
Adding salt is a waste of salt as it takes too much to add taste to the pasta.
It is the boiling moving water that stops it sticking together.
Salt yes, oil, no.
According to the Food Network show Good Eats, adding oil to pasta water doesn't really do much because a scant amount of the oil is absorbed. (less than a teaspoon of an added tablespoon.) Therefore, it's not enough to keep the pasta from sticking to itself.
Adding salt to pasta water keeps the pasta from tasting like paste - my own personal experience.
lots of salt,NO oil,
oil is not needed ,waste of time ,and money.
use as much water as you can, make sure it's really boiling !
4 quarts per pound of pasta
1 oz of salt per 4 quarts of water
make sure water is rapidly boiling
if pasta is being held for later service a small amount of oil can be used to prevent sticking
Salt the water well but do not add oil. The oil offers no benefit.
Well, what do you know- the only thing I learned in college chemistry class, and I get to share it with you. Do you know why you put the salt in?? Water boils at a higher temp when salted- pasta will cook faster. As for the oil- I don't use it, I put butter in the water- the pan won't boil over when boiling on high!!
