How do the people (farmers?) kill sheep, chickens, pigs etc that we eat?!
Answers: What do they use to kill those animals? Machines? Knives? I'm dying to know.
Almost all meat in the USA is slaughtered at an USDA or state dept. of Agriculture inspected facility. Most states prohibit home killing of meat that is to be sold to the public. the exception is chickens. In most states a person that raises fewer than 1000 chickens can kill at home as long as they sell only off the farm. I believe hogs can be home killed as long as they are not to be sold.
I raise chicken for meat and how they kill the chickens is the following:
first while it is still dark we farmers collect the birds up and put them into chicken crates so we can drive them to the killers. At the killers they take the birds out of the crates and put them upside down into "killing Cones" and than slit their throats and let them bleed. the cone keeps them from running around and the fact the head is stil connected to the rest of the body allows for complete bleeding out (required in both Kosher and Halal practises). After killing the birds go into a big pot of hot water to loosen the feathers. Next they are defeathered and than gutted, cleaned and cooled down. the next step is packaging.
Turkeys are done about the same way except they have to be raised on heavy chains to be killed.
if the meat is going to be used for commercial (supermarkert/butcher ect) use - abattoir
"Cows are usually knocked unconscious by applying an electric shock of 300 volts and 2 amps to the back of the head, effectively stunning the animal.[citation needed] If unsuccessful, secondary methods include the use of a captive bolt pistol to the front of the cows's head. Livestock are also rendered unconscious by pneumatic or cartridge-fired captive bolt stunning and CO2/inert gas stunning. (This step is prohibited under strict application of Halal and Kashrut codes.)
Animals are then hung upside down by one of their hind legs on the processing line. The main arteries and veins are severed with a knife, mainly in the neck, and the cow's blood drains, causing death through exsanguination" - wikipedia
Big machetes ( swords ). to the neck.
I don't know how they kill sheep, but to kill a chicken they break its neck or chop it off. it runs around for a little bit then dies. Pigs, they go to the slaughter house.
There are two types of butchering
Slitting the throat - where the arteries of the animal is cut and the animal bleeds to death
Breaking the neck - where the animal's neck is twisted and broken
the former would strain the blood and the resultant meat tougher, this would also not be consumed by muslims
the latter is also called halal
It generally involves trauma to the neck or head, depending on the size of the animal. Larger animals, like cows and pigs< usually get shot in the head. Medium sized animals(sheep, goats) get their throats slit and bled out. Smaller animals(chickens, turkeys) get their heads cut off or necks broken. Most of the time it is done by hand, except with chickens. they get sent through a big machine that cuts their heads off and plucks their feathers at the same time.
i think the burn it
tie them up & slit their troaths. The blood should come out of the body. If eletric shock is given the blood gets clotted & the meat is unclean.
