Fruit.
I think it's classified as a fruit because it has seeds in it. Vegetables either are seeds themselves or are pulled from the ground.

everyone always told us it was a vegetable, but in truth it really is a fruit because of the seeds

A tomato is a fruit, because fruits include the seeds and is the "fruit body" which forms after a flower. The often sweet taste is the food energy that encases the seed to give it something to grow its roots - it is usually simple sugar or starch. It can also be sweet to entice animals to eat it to spread the seed through droppings, although in these cases the seed is undigestible.

Vegetables are any other part of the plant - such as the stalk (celery), the leaf (lettuce), or the root (potato).

technically a fruit, but we generally treat it as a vegtable

Fruit!! I think or both!

Its Veggie. In the reason that it belong to the Nightshade Family wherein the closest specie of which are tobacco,Chili peppers, potato, and eggplant.
