What can I do with Grapefruits?!

Question: I have a ruby red grapefruit tree that just yeilded about 200 or more grapefruits. I have given most away to folk who can use them, but what can I do with the others, besides eat one a day and drink the juice, lol, it's something I would love to know what else I can do with them. Thanx

Try some in your tea. Pretty much any citrus goes well with tea. A quick google search revealed a recipe for massage oil.

Grapefruit Marmalade

1 to 3 Texas Ruby Red or Rio Star grapefruit
1 lemon
1 1/2 cups water
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
5 cups granulated sugar
1/2 (6 ounce) bottle liquid fruit pectin

Remove skins in quarters from grapefruit and lemon. Set fruit aside. Lay quarters flat; shave off and discard almost all white part.

With a sharp knife or scissors, slice rind very thin. Combine rind, water and baking soda in large saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer, covered, 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Chop peeled grapefruit and lemon; discard seeds. Add to cooked rind and continue simmering 10 minutes.

Measure 3 cups fruit mixture into large saucepan. Add sugar to fruit in pan; mix well. Place over high heat; bring to a full, rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil hard 1 minute.

Remove from heat and stir in pectin at once. Skim off any foam. Stir and skim 7 minutes. Ladle into hot sterile jars and seal.

Grilled Grapefruit

3 grapefruits
1 tbl. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat the grill to a medium-high heat. Slice the ends off the grapefruit. Cut 3/4 inch thick rounds, yielding about 3 or 4 slices. Combine the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the sugar mixture on both sides of each slice.

Grill the grapefruit for 5 minutes or until the slices are hot and the sugar begins to caramelize. Make sure to turn the slices halfway through cooking.

citrus fruit are wonderful additions to food! You should try and cook with them. They will bring out many natural flavors in poultry and lamb. You can make gelato and sorbet as well, and those will last. You can always peel them, halve them and freeze to later serve with vanilla or coconut or even mint ice cream. That is a wonderful dessert they serve in Italian bakeries in NY! Grapefruit (and orange) skins are a natural moth repellent (little known fact) Hope this helps! But how wonderful to have all this fruit in your backyard!

Grapefruit cans beautifully. Really. The texture is much like those canned mandarin oranges. It's been years since I've done it. My whole family just loved canned grapefruit.

It's quite easy...just like canning tomatoes. Use a boiling water bath. Pint jars should boil for 10 minutes.

If you own an ice cream freezer. Whir the grapefruit in the blender with some sugar and make a sorbet.

Do you want to be my new best friend. I am absolutely green with envy. Grapefruit is my favorite fruit in the world. I would be only too happy to come and eat them with you. I'm sorry I can't give you any idea of what to do with them though. Too bad you can't ship to Canada!!!
