Answers: ITS BUGGING ME SOOO BADLY

look...you cook beans in water then you cook em in oil and mash them up........thats when they are refered to as refried which comes from spanish refritos except in spanish th "re" in refrito doesnt mean to fry again......so they ARE good the first time they are fried cuz they are only fried once...

That is a good one I want to know, I'm thinking its just a name they give them but there has to be a rsn behind the name..

Where we here in the USA mash potatoes, in Mexico they mash stewed beans. Go here for more information:

"Refried" beans are not, in fact, fried more than once; "refried beans" is a mistranslation of the Spanish "frijoles refritos" which actual just means "well-fried beans".... Look it up!

We Gringos are SO dumb, and those who speak Spanish laugh at us every time we ask this question!

But they're tasty, huh?
