Can only spend $70 on groceries for 7 days....what should I get??!

Question: Keep in mind I am feeding myself, (pregnant), my husband, and my 20 month old for 7 full days on $70 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What are some staple things or menu ideas I can buy for those 7 days that will be at or under $70? Serious answers please....thanks!!

Here's a link for you that I found once when I was flat broke and had little grocery money. Won't have you eating like a king, but your family will be fed!

Best of luck to you!

That may be hard. I suppose you could make rice or potatoes, lunch meats, canned soups or vegetables. Hamburger meat is pretty cheap (hamburger helper). Good luck.

rice, beans, whatever is on sale. eggs, chicken, carrots. chicken carrots, rice can make lots of soup. potatoes. some type of greens, cold cuts like boloney

I would start with eggs, noodles, ground beef, bread, lunch meat, juice. Those things there can be made into many different dishes.a couple cans of cream of mushroom or chicken cream soup too,you can make an noodle cream mushroom dish one day,the bread can make sandwhiches, even an extra loaf of bread can be mixed with can soup and ground beef and baked into a stuffing dish.I dunno just a thought,it's what I eat.

Of course not knowing what you already have (Staple wise) in your pantry making suggestions on what to buy is rather hard. I can suggest that you clip coupons (you can also find them online www.couponmom.com) and if your store has triple coupon day I would shop on that day only. I would plan out meals using staples like Rice, Potatoes, veggies, pasta and as little meat as possible. (sure hope the 20 mth old isn't picky) You can search recipe websites and they have economical recipes. A few good ones to try would be
www.recipegoldmine.com
www.allrecipes.com
www.foodnetwork.com
Foodnetwork should have all the recipes that Rachael Ray makes that are rollover meals (You can stretch one meal into three different meals with one cut of meat, etc) But I would do the research because it can be done with a lot of work. (I actually saw a man in the store one day in line in front of me using coupons on triple coupon day (MIND YOU, he had a whole CART) and he paid .23 cents!!!! Yes twenty three cents total for a cart full of food. I started using coupons from that day on!!! It was amazing! Good luck to you!

You want to first focus on your meats and then your side dishes! Figure out what all you have in your pantry and then go from there!

Choose foods like spaghetti, hamburger fries, or like a soup, ramen noodles that is inexpensive yet filing!

Get you some meats of your choice like ground beef, beef strips, maybe try chicken thighs, they are sooo cheap and delicious, rice, pasta, potatoes, veggies items that you can use to make several meals from for everybody!

Looks for deals and specials. In the meat department they sometimes have manager specials and all those are are meats that need to be eaten sooner that the other meat. They are not bad and are usually a really good deal.

Try getting beef strips, they are usually about 2-3 bucks at Kroger's and you can get 1-2 meals from these for you and your husband. Shop wal-Mart frozen section for things like pizza rols they are cheaper that the grocery store!

Do something fun like a breakfast dinner, I'm sure your little one(s) would love that! Breakfast is usually inexpensive... A box of pancake mix can last you through a few meals! Wal-Mart have the cheapest cereal I have found and we all know cereal will last about a week, at least!

OH and HOT DOGS, lunchmeat sandwiches and chips!!!!
Don't forget the bread, use bread with as many meals as possibe to be a filler! Try a little country crock on your bread as a spread, my family loves that, espeically my 5 children and niece.
I have a couple reciepies I could share with you, if you like, you can contact me!

I wish you all the best, good luck your pregnancy,
Happy New Year!

bread and lunch meat are probably your best bet :)
