Is it necessary to rinse mushrooms before cooking them?!

Question: Thank you.

Answers: Thank you.

NO - NEVER.

Wipe on kitchen towel or your T. shirt to get the odd bits of muck off.

No worries.

With water they get - slimy.....xxx. Happy New Year.....xxx

Yes. They are grown in compost.

Not really, the temperature you cook them at will destroy any bacteria on them anyway....

Yes!! A lot of mushrooms are grown in straight manure since they are a fungi. Rinse well!

that depends on whether you bought them or grew them but personally i wash all mushrooms just in case

Not unless they are very dirty. And whatever you do, don't rinse them for too long or leave them to soak, it ruins them.

Any vegetable or fruit should be washed- you don't know where there coming from nor how many hands of touch them. Take the extra minute or 2 and play it safe.

Most chefs will tell you no - just wipe them clean of any remaining compost.

I just wipe them and peel the skin off - they contain loads of water already!

I was told that you just have to wipe them down. But I still prefer to wash them and then I pull the stalks off and peel the outer layer. Extreme I know but it the idea that they've been growing in the dirt and god knows what that I can't stomach.

brushing or wiping them with a wet cloth work well. rinsing them tends to make them wet

water alone won't will the impurities
......at the same time they are fungus

The chefs will probably tell you 'no', but as a matter of habit, I rinse all fruit and vegetables before use, except bananas. It's up to you, really.

No you shouldn't wash mushrooms. Just wipe them with paper towel to remove any dirt. It spoils the texture if they go into the pan wet.

It is best if wipe them clean with a bit of kitchen towel. Using water makes them soggy.
