Is it donut or doughnut?!

Question: its really doughnut,but people perfer to use ''donut'' for a shorter abreviation.-like''dunkin donuts'' or krispy creme doughnuts-they may sound kinda different but they both have the same word but just spelled different.but its really doughnut!!!
