Why can't one buy brazil nuts in their shells anymore?!

Question: Passing round the nutcracker and big bowl of assorted nuts in their shells, including brazils, was one of my favourite family Christmas rituals. The last couple of years, neither I, nor anyone else in my family has been able to buy brazil nuts that haven't been shelled already. Why is that? And if you know where I can buy them in their shells still, please let me know!

www.nutsonline.com I'm sure you can order from there. Not sure why you aren't seeing them in your shops, but they are available. One thing I do know is that the shells are valuable for other things, so maybe they are cracking them first mainly so they can get the full benefit of selling the meat and the shells separately.

Edit: Just found out that the UK is having an issue with the brazil nuts. There has been some toxins found in the shells so some people are choosing not to take the chance carrying it in the stores

I saw boucoup brazil nuts in shells at Walmart this season.

eu declared must be shelled something about the shell being poisonous

Probably because Labour think you might hurt yourself without a hard hat, goggles, toe cap boots...

there is a disease that gets into the shells at source and because of our stupid laws we won't let then into the country the nuts are fine.
there is hope because one grower is now able to export now so they should start to be available soon.

I get them from a local farm shop, I think the supermarkets stopped selling them, the better ones might still Waitrose/MS. Its really bad for the environment taking them out of their natural packaging and putting them in plastic.

I bought them at walmart... they were in a shell and there were almonds, filberts and pecan , and walnuts too!!! they were in a big bin in the produce section.... good luck!!!

They had some disease a few years ago and then they disappeared from the shelves. A pity they are my favourite nuts in shells.

funny that i looked in tesco and couldnt find any - i found chessnuts and asumed they had run out of brazils -and yes i ahree its all part of christmas along with the smell of satsumas

Hi,
Not sure where you are located, but where I am we haven't had a problem finding any. They usually sell them in bulk at the grocery stores here, or what we usually do is buy a bag of mixed nuts (has pecans, walnuts, almonds, filberts, & brazil nuts).......they are put out by DIAMOND (not Blue Diamond). We got it at our local Wegmans grocery store (only on the East coast), but I'm sure they are sold elsewhere. Good luck!

Hello! I am brazilian. Here in Brazil we have it a lot!Nuts in shells are delicious. The "charm" is take out the nut from inside that.eheheh
See you.
