Bad bananas?!

Question: sometimes i get bananas when they're green and they don't seem to ripen probably (i assume because it's too cold?). their peel also ripens weirdly--it turns yellowish, but is kind of leathery and not as smooth as banana peels usually are.

does anyone know what's going on? is it ok to eat these bananas?

I think the deal is that there are lots of different kinds of bananas. I wouldn't have realized it, but I saw some show on tv where they showed lots of different kinds. So it could be the type of banana that you are buying, which may be the only one, or most prominent one, available in your area at this time of year. I buy mine fairly green also, with the intention that they will last longer and I won't have to eat them as quickly. And I've had some bad ones too. They taste flat, or just strange. Next time you buy them, see if anyone in Produce knows what kind they are selling, just out of curiosity. I don't think eating them will do you any harm as long as they taste good to you.
