What is a good, solid manual can opener?!

Question: I've bought expensive and (at my husband's request) the cheapest, and in-between. We've been through four can openers in 8 months - and we open maybe two cans a day. They just don't "bite" well enough or get too wide. We don't have superhuman strength. This silly problem is bugging me.

What brand should I try next?

Chef Mate saftey cut @ Target for $9.99. The best can opener I've ever used.

I know exactly what you're going through. The best can opener I've ever had, and I loved it, was from Pampered Chef. It cuts on the side so there are no sharp edges and you don't have to worry about it's "bite".

Been there, we have 2, but the one I'm always digging for is the one from Rubbermaid. I think we got it at Walmart.

I have a "Swing-a-Way". I don't remember where I got it but it used to be commonly available at Wal-Mart, Target, and stores like that. I've had it for over 20 years. They work great. Henkel's, of knife fame, have awesome kitchen devices for not to much. I've had their garlic press over 20 years, too, after running through one a year of all kinds of brands. I bet they have a good can opener, too. They will send you information but they won't sell it to you. You have to go to a store and buy it or order from the store.

I've had my swingaway wall mounted can opener for more the 35 years and it's still going strong. Alot easier than any hand held opener.
