I just opened a coconut that had a bitter soapy taste. Anyone know why that might be?!

Question: It looked ripe, and brown and otherwise totally fine but had a horrible taste! That's never happened to me before...hmmm..anyone?

When coconuts rot they do so from the inside out........can never tell until you crack the baby open.

If it smells soapy it has started to rot......if the flesh has a mushiness to it as opposed to being crisp...it has definitely begun to rot.

Seemingly a paradox: smells soapy = rotten coconuts.

yeah its old ....you might need to freshen up

maybe not ripe enough... or too ripe?

Believe it or not, but coconuts expire. Depends how long its been sitting at the store or at your place

bad coconut

Probably too early to crack it open

I guess it wasn't fresh enough.

go buy another.

i would advise you to get quality food your was probably not from the wild the store probably got it from like a coconut farm where they use chemicals and stuff like that

It probably is old. when you buy a coconut shake it you should hear some water sloshing but the 3 dots should not be molded but dark brown in color and not soft

it was probably over ripe or decaying or something.

finally! someone who actually likes coconut ( I <3 coconut!!!)

Well it probably got spolied and had a chemical reaction.

That was a coconut that some one had fixed up for an April fool`s joke and some how you got it a few months early. The jokers have devised a way to open the coconut, sh*t in it and then close it back up and have it still retain it`s original appearance. Don`t feel inferior about being taken in by it because from what I hear nobody notices it until they get a good mouth full of it. Personally I think it ought to be against the law or at least taxed real heavy.
