How bad is it to waste food these days?!
How should I be looking at it now these days?
It's not the same as WWII, or is it?
and I feel bad every time I throw away some kind of food...
Answers: "Those kids in Africa, sure wish they could have the stale bread I threw away", or all the donuts SA throws away at night...

It's hard to buy into the "there are starving children..." argument since we send so much food to those countries as it is but the local governments do not allow it to get to the people.
But I also don't think people should be wasteful just because you can afford to be wasteful. A penny saved is a penny earned. Plus there is more than just the food being wasted. It's the packaging, the transportation /fuel, and landfill space.
My recommendation is to buy what you'll eat and eat what you buy. Don't prepare more than you can eat within a 3 day time frame. Or freeze it for later. Don't buy perishables in bulk. Keep track of what you have so you don't keep buying more of stuff you don't need.
Consider composting.
If you try your best then that is all you can do. None of us are capable of zero waste.
If I gave you change for a $20.00 bill would you throw part of it away??
If you take more food then you need ,and throw part of it away, are you not throwing away money .. Think about it.
