Answers: What is the shelf life of a open Honey jar ?

Honey is about the only food product that will not spoil. You can leave it on a shelf for an indefinite amount of time.

leave it out honey!

Honey does not have to be refrigerated. In fact they found honey in a tomb in egypt that was still good. Honey does not go bad but it will crystalize when exposed to air so just keep the lid on tight and no worries.

Thumbs up for Jolly as he is correct. If the honey does get kind of chalky like you can put it in the microwave for a very short time and it will return to liquid.

Jolly is correct. Honey is the ONLY food that never spoils. It is best to leave it in a cupboard or on the counter. You can refrigerate it also, but you will have to wait until it gets to room temperature if you want to drizzle it over anything. Once you have a jar of honey for a while, you may notice it start to crystalize or look as if it has grains of sand in it. All you have to do is microwave the honey for 30 seconds or so until the (sugar) crystals dissolve.

ETA: Honey will crystalize even if the jar hasn't been opened or exposed to air. It's just a chemical reaction that happens in the honey.

With the lid on, honey, or bee barf, should last indefinitely.

Let's see now I'm 70 yrs old and I've never put honey in the fridge. I moved here 8 yrs ago and just got a new jar last year. So I know for sure it's good for at least 10 years as I had the last jar before I moved here.

You probably eat more honey than I do but I just have to have it when I want it.

The best place to store honey is in a dry place as honey absorbs moisture. Refrigeration will hasten granulation. Freezing does not injure honey.

You can leave the honey on a jar on the shelf...it won't spoil!

either or. Honey is the only food that will not spoil.

You leave it out. If you refrigerate honey, it's harder to get out of the jar. But you can refrigerate if you want. It's just easier to get the honey out if it isn't. As for shelf life, honey doesn't spoil.

Tanked up is so right! It will crystalize..but even then it does not spoil....I was at this health food store and found pure white honey..OMG! It is so good!!! Just wish it were cheaper! LOL!
