You can simply just apply butter and sprinkle some sugar (not too much) on the toast.
If you are toasting using mini-oven, (instead of those bread toasting machine that pops up), try one of this:
Apply before you put into the oven and toast:
1) Peanut butter, especially those with peanut crunch. The smell of roasted peanut is superb.
2) Slice cheese. See how it slowly melt in the process....
Black cherry preserves with dark chocolate shavings. Heaven on bread.

Two slices of toast with a fried egg, cheese, and veggie bacon (b/c I'm a vegetarian) and of course, Ketchup.
I also like strawberry cream cheese just as much.

Nutella. That chocolate hazelnut spread. Even better with a tiny bit of butter or margarine with it too.
I grate cheddar and blue cheese, the mix in some finely chopped garlic and tomatoes, spread this on the bread then put it under the grill until the cheese has melted, yum yum
Pineapple preserves. Great on plain toast or as a peanut butter and pineapple sandwich on toast.
Butter & dashed with some sugar.
