Average weekly food bill for a family of 4, is it really £180 ?!

Question: On GMTV this morning they stated that the average weekly grocery bill for a family of 4 was nearly £180.
Do you believe this ? how much do you spend on groceries in a week ? I spend £50 maximum (that's all I have) and we don't starve.

Hi, I feed a family of 4 on £40-£50 per week, sometimes not even that much and I buy fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, packup stuff and even some treats.... we don't starve either and the kids are never asking for things we don't have so I must be doing ok.

we spend 200 a mth for family of three and we arent skimping either.

Far too much I would say!

£50 sounds good to me! Well done!

£100 top whack probably.

its the word average gives it away - you might spend £50 but some familys out there will spend £350 +

we spend £200

well we spend all at one time about 200 . 00 so we dont have to go back at all but it could last us 2 weeks and we are a family 4 but the youngest dont eat that much . you have to cut coupons and shop cheap to make on that .

For my partner and me, excluding alcohol it is usually about 150 to 180 but we do eat extremely well, by that I do not mean quantity but quality, and we also shop in expensive shops like Farm shops, delicatessens and the supermarkets we use are not cheap either so I can see quite easily how a family of four could spend 180.

I spend about £70-£100 for four.

£180 seems a bit high.

I spend over €200 a week here and still buy milk and bread and different bits on a daily basis. I do not buy lots of luxuries either. I think the cost of living is much higher in Ireland though.

i do a big shop (biggish) for like frozen and tins once a month, and your lucky if it comes to anymore than £70 and i usually spend between £10 - £30 on bread and milk and other bits and bobs food wise a week.

theres 3 of us in our family. (although my daughters only 2 so doesnt eat all that much. and i'm saving a fortune the now cos my fiancee is in iraq. but the details at the top is when he's here)

im with you -where the hell are they getting their food from? we are a family of 5 and i spend the same as you that includes all toiletries as well-i admit its sometimes the cheapest stuff but i like you dont have any other choice-they are living like kings on that much food

Don't worry, they are talking about fat people probably. Or kids who lives with their parents who are over 30 years old.

I spend about £80 on a family of 3 humans and 2 dogs.

Some people have obviously never heard of Buy One Get One Free's!!

don't you just love the way they get their poll results from people who shop at Harrods

hi pa! 180 a week????? im the daughter of my family (of four) and we don't even spend 100 a month. i think you should email them. that is so wrong. but i think YOU should splash out on AT LEAST 70 a month. but if you can't than dont worry. hope this was useful by, F.O

Not on junk food i hope.?

£90 for 3 people 2 dogs 2 cats
