The American "6 quart" is well meaning but not helpful on this side of the pond. Their 'quarts' are smaller than ours too.

You need a 5 or 6 litre one. Look out for an oval shape, it's more efficient use of the kitchen worktop. Get a deep one rather than a shallow one because it'll be better if you're making a smaller quantity and don't fill it.

You Must get one with a removable casserole (that's dishwasher proof if you have one). Fixed dishes are a real pain and you'd soon regret it.

Look in a good shop like John Lewis and look at Russel Hobbs range, with two heat settings.

Get a (6) quart. Do don't have to fill it up when you use it, but if you need to make more, you'll have the room.

we use a 5 quart slow cooker, its great because sometimes stuff would boil up during cooking and the extra bit of room saved us from a mess, and theres more room to lay things like chicken or a roast

mine is about 6 ltrs and we are a family of 5.its a good size and so convenient its definately worth a try. spag bol or chili is amazing in a slow cooker the mince is really =tender i didnt think it would make much difference but it does!

Get the 6 quart, you will always have plenty of room to cook for the whole family or left overs to freeze. I have a small and large and I almost always use the large over the small.
