WHY do you order diet coke at a restaurant with a 1500+ calorie entree??!

Question: Do you seriously think you are being healthy by drinking that crap?? And why do you guys have to go through like 5 refills??? If you're going to be getting that 10 ounce burger stuffed with bacon and cheddar cheese with fries, why not go all out and get regular Coke? I'm just curious. I can't think of anyone else who likes the taste of Diet Coke better than regular Coke, and once you're on your 5th glass (which wouldn't happen if you drank regular Coke because it's less carbonation and more SUBSTANCE) it doesn't matter that you're drinking diet ANYWAYS.

Regular soda has immense amount of calories and has no substance. It's not even sweetened with sugar in the US [it is in Mexico], but with high fructose corn syrup and have just as much carbonation. A 12 oz can of coke has 180 calories, so imagine how many calories are in 5 refills. I'd rather eat calories than drink them [1/2 cup of ice cream is roughly the same as a coke]. That's why.

Secondly, diet sodas are more diabetic friendly since they don't affect your blood glucose.

So, I guess it does matter what you are drinking. I generally order a water, am lactose intolerant, and hate cheese. But if I have greasy foods [ie Chinese] soda is necessary so I go diet.

If I recall correctly, saving 100 calories/day will help you lose weight and prevent that slow weight gain from occurring. So saving 300+ calories from not chugging regular sodas or lattes can help you prevent weight gain.

the best ones are the " can i have half coke... half diet coke?" or the grande cambo meal with a salad and a diet coke....

As long as you drink diet coke with food, you can eat whatever you want and not gain any weight. Everyone knows this.

I drink a diet drink because I like the taste

...I don't like all that sugar.

Get a life!

I also think it's pretty dumb..... the only reason to order diet would be if they like the diet coke's taste better than the regular coke's....... which is very unlikely!!!! Otherwise, you're already eating a bunch of calories so 200 more won't harm too much.......

Why order Coke at all? Water tastes better, is better for you and best of all it's free.

Ok, so here's the deal. When you order a diet coke with whatever your eating, it cancels out the fat and calories of your food. Soooooo....if you order a hot fudge sundae along with a diet coke, you're good to go! :)

(and if you believe this, I have some swamp land I can sell you in Florida.......)

A 32 ounce coke - standard in a lot of fast food (if you can call it that) restaurant - is an additional 400 calories.

But personally, since I'm a diabetic, I need to avoid the extra carbs associated with the sugar.

That said, I don't particularly like diet coke but drink a lot of coke zero. Unfortunately restaurants don't carry it.

Carrying on about what others do is fruitless; just take care of yourself. Have a salad without dressing; something I do a lot.

they might be diabetic...who knows.

Lets say the glasses at the resturaunt hold 16 oz of soda in addition to the ice. Two people come in. One of them orders regular coke, the other diet. Both of them have two refills, so 48 oz of soda. An 8 oz serving of regular coke has 97 calories. Diet coke is calorie free. The one drinking regular coke has added 582 calories to his meal. The one drinking diet has added 0 calories to her meal. Sure, the 1500+ calorie meal may not be the best bet for staying thin, but that's no reason to then add on an additional 582 calories.

Some people like diet better...

Some others may think "Hey, I'm going to have 1500 calories right now... I don't want to make it 1600!!" Lol

Not only do I order diet coke or unsweet tea, I also limit myself to eating only half of what I order. I take the rest home either for the next day, or for my dogs. For me it is because I am diabetic and must watch my sugar/carb intake. If at a fast food place, I order the smallest burger,or chicken of some type, if at a restaurant I order a regular meal and have veggies instead of potatoes, and I skip the bread. So some times it is a matter of health.
Now I have a sister who barely weighs 100 pounds and she will not drink anything but diet. She likes the taste better. So I guess with each person it is a personal choice.
