Why are low-salt foods more?!

Question: expensive than salted foods?

I don't eat salt if I can help it and i look for items that have no salt or low salt and I seem to pay more for them than the items that contain salt.

Why is that?

Answers: expensive than salted foods?

I don't eat salt if I can help it and i look for items that have no salt or low salt and I seem to pay more for them than the items that contain salt.

Why is that?

One reason is that shelf life is lowered on those items because salt acts as a preservative. So since the items are more perishable, then fewer numbers are made of each of those items. Part of cutting costs in making an item is to make them in bulk and to be able to keep them on the shelves for long periods. Since these cost more to make, then the cost is showing in their price to the consumer.

It could be many things...

Supply and Demand: People perceive it as healthier and are willing to pay for the higher price.

Cost: It may cost more (setup time, cleaning, production stoppage) to run a separate batch of low sodium food through the machinery.

To be honest, I've never noticed a price difference between low-sodium and regular products.

No insult
but too many have a fear of salt...
It is all about marketing and false information..
Sea salt is not less sodium,, it is crystallized Na Cl
you can dilute it with other compounds but the salt is salt
Not reduced sodium...
OK twisted... ONLY a few people with health or digestive defects must refrain from the intake of reasonable amounts of salt..
Firefighters and military are cautioned to take their salt tablets for dehydration..
