Is there a remedy for soothing a sore tummy after eating jalapenos?!
Thank-you.
Answers: Me and my partner ordered a pizza last night with extra jelapeno's. We love them, but these were the hottest ever. Needless to say this morning we have very upset tummys. Just wondering If there are any remedies to help sooth Our tummys.
Thank-you.
Too much alcohol, hot and spicy foods, and smoking all cause too much acid to be produced, which irritates the stomach lining. If the lining of the stomach becomes inflamed then this causes an upset stomach, usually with indigestion pains. Anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, tylenol or aspirin can irritate the lining of the stomach too (and many people have a bad reaction with tylenol).
Peppermint tea or ginger ale (with real ginger) will help - peppermint, ginger and licorice (real thing in each case - not similar tasting artificial substitutes) are all good for upset stomach. You can also try the BRAT diet for a few days (bread, rice, apples, tea - i.e. bland foods). Non-acidic soup and crackers are good, bananas and oatmeal too. Many people find relief with flat, warm coca-cola - my mom used to give it to us when we were kids and it always helped when we had flu, but I'm not sure it would help in your situation. It is important that you also keep hydrated by drinking enough water - try small amounts, taken steadily. And you would benefit by lying down, If you want to coat the stomach, try pepto-bismol, which is excellent. Tums is also good (neutralizes stomach actid).
Generally, with the exception of yogurt, you should AVOID milk products for upset stomach - contrary to popular misconception, milk and other milk products are generally BAD for upset stomach as they have a rebound action which causes MORE stomach acid production - see this link:

However, one of the exceptions to this rule is foods containing capsacin - like peppers! However, I would stick with yogurt rather than other milk products, just to be on the safe side!

Feel better!!!
Dairy products such as milk and ice cream are excellent in settling spice related upsets. Drinking a glass of milk afterwards is not only an good dose of calcium, but will stave off any upset stomachs.
Tums or Pepto
Milk is good as said above me. It coats your stomach. I think the reason you guys don't feel so well could be an acidic reaction. Try the milk and maybe some motrin or tylonal. Stay away from acidic drinks like orange juice....they make that stuff worse.
well here where jalapenos are grown we would drink Atole look it up...
failing to find any where you are I would suggest sour cream...yeah you can have it on a baked potato...dont know why but sour cream takes the burn out of hot foods
I have to agree with S H Dairy products will cool your stomach down. It is customary in Indian cultures(from India) to serve yogurt after a spicy meal to cool down the heat.
There is nothing better than home made yogurt. We have a Mediterranean restaurant and my wife makes the thick yogurt for our Tzatsiki sauce (yogurt cucumber) for our Gyros.
Recognize that Capsaicin is fat-soluble, as well as alcohol soluble, which means that fatty foods or beverages such as milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, or avocados will release the pain-causing chemical, or a shot of your favorite tequila will do the job as well (
Test some old-fashioned notions that call for the following; some are probably more mental than actually removing the pain but judge this for yourself:
* Eat some cucumber. This is in fact a common way to deal with too much heat in the food in Indonesia and Thailand.
* Eat bread; it'll absorb the heat content. This is an old trick amongst Italian families.
* Use salt. Salting the food or eating salty chips can soothe the burn.
* Try honey. Sopapillas with honey are served with spicy foods in some restaurants.
Milk, ice cream, Tums, Pepto
Sounds like the pizza place may have slipped in some habaneros or else forgot to remove the seeds out of the jalepenos.
Eat a banana. Milk products can cause further upset for lots of folks and liquid serves to re-agitate the oils in your stomach.
