If raw eggs have salmonella, then aren't we eating it when we buy ice cream?!
Answers: I work at a major U.S. ice cream plant, and to answer your question, pasteurization is the reason we can make ice cream safely with egg included as one of the ingredients. Raw egg, along with the raw mix used to make the ice cream, passes through our pasteurizer before being stored in our processing tanks. Egg gives some of our flavors, such as Homemade Vanilla and Homemade Chocolate, a unique taste and texture.
Yes, that's probably why our death rate is so high. Did you know that north american's have a death rate of 100%
not only ice cream, its in loads of stuff. some people drink raw eggs cos its good for them apparently. yuck
I thought ice cream was basically milk, cream, sugar and flavors? When they did start adding raw eggs to ice cream? Guess you learn something new everyday!
yes it stands a good chance
actually NO!! the custard mixture is cooked before being frozen into ice cream!
But Only 1 in maybe 1,000,000 eggs will have salmonella in it.
Apparently you don't know iced cream is made from cooked custard.
raw eggs dont always have salmonella actually, the salmonella is on the shell, not in the actual egg. most egg processing plants wash eggs with a sanitizing soap within minutes of being laid.
besides during production ice cream is pasteurized. Pasteurization is the process of heating the mix in order to kill harmful bacteria. this means you usually heat the ingredients to a certain temperature and hold it there to kill off salmonella and other harmful stuff.
Only French vanilla and Eggnog ice cream have eggs. Most commercial ice cream manufacturers used pasturized eggs.
good question ! but if its frozen then maybe that will kill it but i saw a program on U K TV last night that raw eggs are also in MAYO and they are not frozen so beware !!! but i love mayo so i will still be eating it ,but then I'm nearly 60 so i don't care
