What is the best way to keep a homemade salad fresh?!

Question: I'd like to start making salads at home to take with me for lunch, but my produce always ends up going bad.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Cover with a damp paper towel and put the salad in a container without further covering and in the morning take the paper towel off and add the lid to the container and it's good to go.

I worked for 54 years and that's how I always did it.

  • put it in the fridge.

get a vacum sealer find a cheap one a wal-mart

tupperware. That is what i use and it could stay fresh for a couple days. Or use a bowl with cling wrap. and keep refrigrated

plastic containers and in the fridge

Don't dress the salad until you are ready to eat it.
Make sure you use a salad spinner on the leaves to get all the moisture out.
And of course put in in the fridge

Chop it roughly and put no salt or dressing. Keep it in the fridge in a sealable container that does not let in air.

The trick is air tight containers, you may also want to sprinkle a little lemon juice on your lettuce to keep it fresh.

Keep lettuce separate in ziplock bag w/ paper towel in it to absorb the water. The other stuff, toss, and keep in tupperware.

dont put any wet ingredients or salad dressing on the salad and keep in an airtight box. i used to put my dressing in a seperate container

Make cheesecloth bags to keep you lettuce in the fridge. This will insure that the lettuce drys out instead of becoming soft and mushy. Dried out lettuce can be reconstituted in a little warm water and is still edible. One of the reasons produce goes bad so quickly is because we wrap everything in plastic, so it rots because it can't breathe.

    Good luck!

the best way to keep your salads fresh and crisp is to store in a container with a paper towel directly on the top of the lettuce and a few ice cubes on top ot the towel. Drain the water off before you eat and your salad will be nice and crisp. Don't add any croutons, cheese or meat when you do this -pack them by themselves.

Salad does not stay very fresh very long.I wash my salad and then but it in a bowl with a lid the bowl has like holes on the bottom that lets the water run of the washed salad,it hold for about 4-5 days that way in the fridge .I think because the salad does not sit in the water.
