Answers: Why the heck has the price of eggs doubled in the last month? Did all the chickens die? Is there a farmers strike I havent heard about? Its really pissing me off that the cost of food is going sky high and no one else seems to be getting the least bit pissed off about it. Milk is 4 +$ a gallon. Bread is pushing 3$ a loaf and potatos are 5. 50$ for a 5 lb pag compared to $2.50 last year.
Well all my chickens did not die but i gotta tell you the price of feeding them has gone up about 300% in the last 2 years. Grain prices have gone up to consumers at an alarming rate considering the grain growers are not making any more $$.
With increase cost of production at the grain end due to land use restrictions.. equiptment cost ( have you priced a combine?) and wage issues, not to mention processing etc. we are seeing a chain reaction in "end market" (thats grocery stores) pricing. add everyones increased cost along the way, shipping -we all know what the price of gas did- packaging... the grocery store labour costs... and YOU pay the result.
PS there are increased health concers due to "bird flu" and other virises... add extra cost for flock maitnance.... buy direct from the producer... you will get fresher eggs and boot the middle men

actually the problem is that the transportation is expensive...there are gas shortages, so the transportation costs more, which makes the food cost more, especially food like eggs, which go bad easily...

it's not just eggs that went up. EVERYTHING, is going up, prices on everything. It's crazy I know.

It may have to do with the price of oil and gasoline. Keeping the chickens, getting the eggs to market, etc costs more because heating, manufacturing and transportation costs are going up.
since we are going through global warming, there will be more droughts and the strange weather will affect the plants and crops and it messes with their reproduction. that leaving less of everything and less of everything means more money because their are less of chickenc. or probably they have a chick flu or something like that.
Why don't you ask KFC or Mcdonalds or something.
Well I'm sorry Im really not sure but those farms should stop wasting time..oops did I say that it might only spend a millasec to produce something crappy..on bad food so there would be plenty of food in the grocery stores.
If you go to Costco you can buy your food in bulk and save some cash, you'd still pay a bit I guess but your saving.
Yes, it is the fuel prices. We are working our way towards a hydrogen based economy. Egg prices should go down when this happens.

On top of all that, do you know that some farmers are paid by the federal government to NOT farm their land or raise their chickens or their cattle? I am not sure why this is done, but it is very common and done all of the time. Farm subsidies. That has never made any sense to me.
Corn is being turned to ethanol for fuel.
Corn is also fed to animals and for people food, but now there is a demand for corn so the prices are going up.
Other crops are being ripped out for corn to be planted. However, even if all the fields in the country were planted with corn there would not be enough ethanol to supply this country's fuel needs.
In parts of Mexico the blue agave (tequila) is being ripped up and corn planted.
This rising cost of corn and less land dedicated to other crops will cause the price of many items to go up. (And as others mentioned, the rising cost of fuel adds additional increases.)
Edit: Also - there were wheat crop failures around different parts of this country and the world - so expect bread to go up a bit, and then come back down as the next crop comes in.

It's a combination of fuel costs, bad economic policy, inflation, the building recession and other things.
I bought 25 chickens. I also get bread at the outlet store (Wonder bread 2/$1.69) . Check out Walmart for milk. Potatoes, I skip if the price is up that week even though I love them. getting used to boxed spuds.
