How long after expiration date is it still safe to eat?!

Question: my friend recently gave me some protein bars because he didn't notice they had nuts and he is allergic....anyways they expire today (Jan. 13) and it is still a full box. i'm wondering if i have to eat them quickly or if it matters with that kind of food.

The people who make the expiration dates are not fools, they study their product and generally give a margin of error so that it's safe to eat untill the date posted.

Until that date the law is on your side if you get intoxicated... after then you'r all alone. Theres always a margin of error that allows the system to be almost fool proof (accidents happen). The date is posted for something, after then you run a risk.

You WANT to eat them... I'd say you have two weeks, eat them in less then a week. Give some out, have fun with them. enjoy them, you know you want them. You just made me crave an energy bar :(

Eat them fast... chances are you already started.

never

protein bars? they probably would still be good 10 years from now. munch away.

eat them for as long as you want.
Nothing in a protein bar can spoil.
It will dry out so dip it in some milk. or water
i buy them by the box at the swap meet and keep them in my car and for camping and have eaten them after months after the date expired.

You're fine. If it were something more perishable, you'd have problems. But there's not much to spoil in a protein bar.

That date is for quality control and sell dates for the stores.
Those bars will probably be good well after you are gone!!
