When buying meat, if the date says best before ...... how long can you keep it in the frig before cooking?!

Question: I bought it on Thursday and best before date was the next day (friday) and I am cooking it now on a sunday. There was no real smell to it, and it was a simmering steak, so I browned it and have simmered it in a broth for an hour and a half which is what you are told to do. I just started thinking about the date and I don't want to be paranoid but does meat go bad right after the due date?

yes, You are perfectly fine to eat the meat, so long as you know you have stored it properly.
Legally if an item is marked Best before, it means it will still be fine to eat afterwards but may not be of such good quality as if eaten on the best before date.
You do however need to be careful to check products with a use by date as you will find the product starts to deteriorate after this date and may start to cause problems if eaten
Even for use by dates you generally have a couple of days to consume them.
all the best, I am sure the broth will be BRAW

no i worked in the meat dept. for 4 years you are fine you have 3 or so days after sell by date plus beef stays good even longer than that it'll just get more tender

This is the true story of dated meat:

All the little bacteria interested in your hunk of meat stand in a row behind a teeny barbed wire barrier. And as soon as the expiration date is past WHAM! they barrel over the fence and poo all over your steak!

lol. (I hate it when I laugh at my own jokes! :)

Really, the dates are just approximate. If it smells bad, throw it out. Otherwise, it's probably just fine.

I would probably say your okay, unless the meat has been already touched and handle then I would cook it immediately.

I too, would buy meats when the date says best before... and would cook it in a couple of days. I would rinse the meat first before prepping.
