Why does a sugar rush make me sleepy?!

Question: A sugar rush is followed quickly by a sugar crash. Your body likes the sugar and uses it up VERY quickly, so you go from a hyper level of energy to using all that energy very quickly and being left with the opposite....sleepiness. Once the sugar is gone, if you have nothing else in your system, your body thinks you have nothing left to give it to use for energy.

Because straight after the sugar high your body experiences a sugar low and you feel tired and sleepy.

Insulin spike.

What goes up must come down. When it does (your blood sugar), you crash and burn. A sugar rush is only a quick fix. Your best bet would be a snack well balanced in protein, complex carb, and vitamins, particularly B-12. There are several protein bars out there that can help without making your glucose levels dip to the point of being lethargic.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you! :o)
