Alternatives to milk?!
Answers: i'm trying to cut out milk to see if it would sort out some of my health problems (nothing serious). normally i have lots of milk with my breakfast cereal (oatibix or porridge), either hot or cold. and then i also put lots into my tea. what is the best tasting alternative (also has to be ok for cooking porridge)?
My daughter is totally dairy free for health reasons. She uses Alpro soya lite on all her cereal, but it is an acquired taste. And it works with porridge. When you make tea or coffee always add the milk last or it curdles. I use it in cooking etc and its fine. They do a great range of yoghurts to. She uses the sweetened version tho as the unsweetened isnt so nice. Its sweetened with apple juice so not as bad as sugar. Dont forget to monitor how much calcium you are getting though as you must not become deficiant.
alpro soya milk
You could try Soya milk.
I recently found out I was lactose intolerant and had to cut milk out of my diet so I tried all sorts of milk alternatives. Soy milk has a sweeter taste and I didn't really like it in cereal but I really like it in coffee since it has that sweeter flavor. I found that Silk brand chocolate soy milk was really good and tasted just like regular chocolate milk. As far as a milk alternative for cereal, try Lactaid brand milk, it's Lactose free milk and I've found it works really well in cereal, it doesn't taste much different than real milk. I also have found that cooking and baking with both Lactaid and soy milk works really well, just substitute them for whatever recipe calls for milk.
Good luck!
silk!
don't cut out milk if your lactose intolerant; try adding lactaid or another brand of lactase (the enzymet that digests milk for you)
i found RICE DREAM recently and its totally yummy!! i hated it at first but with time.. mmm i love the vanilla flavoured one X
u can find it in Sainsbury's, waitrose ... its delicious with cereals and by itself too
Just try Soy Milk. It's not bad! My son was allergic to Milk so we went Soy for awhile. You get used to it. Some people even like it better!
unsweethen soya milk
have you tried goats milk, i changed my son over to this because he was always snotty. it takes a little getting used to but tastes really nice especially on cereal. can buy it in asda the semi skimmed is much cheaper than full fat.
