Is there a red frosting that is NOT bitter? Haven't found one in my 30 years of living. Any one?!
Answers: Usually red frosting is so bitter b/c the amount of coloring that you have to add to it. When I took a cake decorating class and would make red icing we would first use pink and then add red to that. Our instructor also said that if you dissolve some cherry kool aid in a little bit of water you can use that to color and flavor your icing, which I didn't like that. Anyway, so the point of using pink coloring first is so that you don't have to add so much red coloring and it won't be as bitter.
use regular frosting and add red food coloring. will that work? hope so!
Check out grocery store bakeries. I've eaten red icing from them on various cakes and they are not bitter at all.
It is the red food coloring that gives it that bitter taste - try using a dry food coloring/dye or a paste one, you do not need much of either to color so you should not get too much, if any, bitter taste.
