Sugar alcohol?!
Answers: is sugar alcohol safe after weight lose surgery?
To the extent that sugar alcohols are safe for anyone - LOL! Sugar alcohols can have unpleasant side effects for anyone, and different SAs have different effects.
The best, IMO, are erythritol & xylitol - less laxative effect. But xylitol can raise blood sugars more than I like. Erythritol has a peculiar cooling effect in the mouth.
If you're wanting to know for baking . . . I use a combination (1/2 & 1/2) of Splenda granular & polydextrose. It works well most of the time. No noticeable laxative effect, sweet enough, and bulky enough.
Polydextrose is available at honeyvillegrain.com.
No. Duh.
Sugar alcohol is sorbitol. It's a no-calorie sweetener but it is also known as "baby laxitive." It's what doctors give to constipated babies. It works by irritating the bowels, so you shoudl stay away from it until your surgey has totally healed and your system jas settled down.
