Who is eating the cloned meat? FDA just approved it.?!

Question: Its official, the FDA has approved the cloning of "quality" animals so we can use them for meat and cut down on disease. They are going to clone cows, goats, chickens, and pigs to kill, process, and distribute for human consumption. There also will not be a label on the cloned meats in the supermarket either, so you will not be able to tell if the meat is from a cloned animal or not.
Your thoughts? I've been vegetarian since I was 16 and vegan since 19, I just hope they do not start cloning all foods, like fruits, vegetables, and etc.

You're a vegetarian and don't know about grafting in veggies and fruits, and show plants? It's basically the same idea as cloning. If you've ever eaten a Naval orange, you're eating the genetic copy of an original mutation that happened in Brazil in 1820. Look up Naval oranges on Wikipedia for more info. Grafting - two plants encouraged to fuse together - is used a lot for a variety of reasons. It creates a lot of what we see today.

And then of course there's the GMO plants. Now, as a vegetarian, do you eat any GMO products? (Genetically Modified) And I don't know if most people realize that a plant can be genetically modified and still grown to be called "organic." I don't care for the idea of fusing fish cells into tomatoes to make them hardier.

Now we come to animal cloning. Personally, I am bothered by it and plan to not consume any such meats. I cannot even understand what the logic is? Was there something wrong with normal birthing? It makes absolutely no sense to me why one would clone and animal, let alone for food.

Well, there is nothing different about cloned meat. Cloning does not mean the animal was born and raised in a test tube. It was carried by a female of its species. The current cloning techniques involve placing the genetic material inside of an egg and then implanting that egg in a female. Genetically, the animal is identical (or nearly identical) to the genetic donor. There is nothing different about the meat from a cloned animal. The industry wants to use clones to make better use of any genetically superiour animals. This has been done thru breeding but with cloning a sample can be taken from an animal and then many identical clones can be created instead. There would be no difference in the meat that these animals produce as opposed to meat that would come from the original animal. We have been eating cloned food for centuries. A lot of fruits and nuts are from cloned trees. It does not change the taste of the fruit or the nuts.

The cloned me.

I ate a burger from a cloned cow and now I have a twin brother. Weird huh?

I don't see the problem with this? The are taking the fertile eggs and sperm of an animal, they are basically re-growing it? They are not adding anything to it? What is the problem?
Think of it this way, Corn Corn is a great example... Each Year a Corn farmer will harvest his crop, but some where in there he takes some of his crop and will basically put it aside for the following years planting. Think of it that way. If you do that to a cow, but the process is just a Little harder.

This process can save Millions of peoples lives around the world that are starving and dying everyday....

I wouldn't eat it. We still don't know the ramifications of eating cloned meat that comes from animals which are sicker than regular animals. If some people want to eat it, fine, but IT SHOULD BE LABELED!

at the rate that people are getting cancer/disease. i say eat as little meat as possible. they show in the movie the corporation how people on farms inject cows with antiobiotics. its quite sick. its a messed up world. i stick to mostly fruits and vegetables myself. good question though.
