I heard people eat seals how does that taste like to they sell that?!
Answers: meat anywhere in the usa?
I to live in Canada and am a former chef who worked in the north and in the eastern provinces and the Inuit do eat seal, walrus and a northern sea creature called a narwal (sea unicorn), it is not a common meat/dish in other parts of Canada, unless your from Newfoundland and there is a delicacy made called "Flipper Pie" nad not the porpoise, it made from the Harp seal flippers, they are salted and then rinsed in a hot water and baking soda solutions, then boiled with onions carrot and celery to cook them, the meat is them removed from the bones and tendons, and made into a meat pie like dish with a puff pastry, in St Johns, Nfld, you can find it in the grocery stores along with moose pie, caribou pie, venison pie and a fish pie with a white based sauce and pastry.
Taste wise it is like a long cooked beef and a bit of liver, hints of chewiness and a slight marine flavour, not everyone cup of tea, I have eaten it, and made it once, it is not available much outside the provinces of Newfoundland, even the flippers are not imported out of the area uch, but they doe ship it if you want to try a bite.
Aren't seals endangered?
I have never eaten seal. I live in Canada.
yes people eat it
no seals are not endangered
I doubt you can find it in the USA
doesn't taste too bad, a dark colored rich meat.
the only place I know of that sells it is in Newfoundland when it is in season(winter) and up north in Canada.
usually people make it into seal pie(like chicken pot pie but with seal meat) or a stew, some roast it in the oven with veggies
used to be available in cans but I haven't seen that since I lived in the North West Territories about 17 years ago.
