When people talk about dipping their bread in olive oil as a healthier form of eating rather than butter, are?!

Question: they talking about "extra virgin olive oil"? Sorry, but I am having a hard time imagining myself dipping my bread into oil and I want to make sure before I try this that I am understanding this correctly.

It may seem strange but it tastes really good, and extra virgin will do, but I like any. Add some red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, add oregano if you want, you will like it.....of course with crusty bread, not white loaf bread tho. Good luck....

yes, olive oil is heathier than butter

Yes. The higher the quality of the oil the better the flavour. Usually dipping oil is flavoured with herbs and/or garlic. Try it sometime. You'll love it.

Both are fat and high in calories. I tend to eat more of the olive oil because it is so delicious. It is healthier - but if you tend to eat more calories because it tastes better - how healthy can it be?

They are almost certainly talking about Extra Virgin live Oil (EVOO). EVOO is very good for you inside and out. Out, meaning that Its great for your skin and hair too.

On bread its great. EVOO has a million uses in cooking.

The better quality olive oil you use, the better it will taste. Extra virgin is the best.

Try putting 3-4 peeled cloves of garlic in your bottle of olive oil. let sit for 2-3 hours. Pour a little oil in a small dish, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and dip your bread. Mmmm!
You can also buy flavored olive oil (herbs & stuff added) at the grocery store.

Actually extra virgin olive oil is richly flavoured and is mono saturated oil as opposed to butter with is saturated fat. I you can eat bread & butter you can eat bread dipped in olive oil (not saturated).

Yes. I think it has less saturated fat than butter.

you don't know what you are missing
I drink olive oil by the spoon full

Dipping bread into olive oil is actually pretty good, only a little messy. If you add fresh herbs and a wee bit of seasoning to the oil it is good. The olive oil or even grape seed oil could be used as they are both light and good for you, oils, as in retrospect to using butter or margarine. Especially if you are on a non diary diet, A soft bread like French or Italian bread is best to use.

yea olive oil is healthier and i think it tastes really good....i prefer olive oil over the butter =)

its healthier because it is not going to solidify in your body and clog up your arteries also you dint dip your bread in you drizzle a little over it ten back it in the oven ...its nice if you have mixed garlic or rosemary with it first :)

olive oil is much better for you than fats that come from animals like butter, cream, lard.
some people take a spoon of olive oil rite from the bottle,
they say it's for good health.

im not a health nut and never tried this but really i think if you prefer bread and butter that is fine...butter is getting better anyways in the ways its made...but nothing is better than a hot piece of toast with butter on it!! =)

sometimes one should just stick with the old favorites

already answered properly but i will add two comments:

-traditionally the oil is infused with garlic which means that is has had fresh cloves of fresh garlic in it for long enough to infuse the flavor..

-The bad rap that butter gets really needs to be put to a halt.
obviously there are some sources for butter that are better than others (butter made from cows raised on pasture, in no chem organic situations vs. butter made from cows in factory farm situaitons). If you put a bit of time into research on the positive contents of butter ,like CLA, you may have some grounds to reconsider butter as an positive nutritional source!

The word virgin refers to the acidity content starting with extra-virgin 1% acidity then fine virgin 1,5 per cent and semi-fine virgin 3%. These oils are also obtained from the first pressings of olives, while the rest made from subsequent pressings is called pure refined olive oil. Virgin oils starting from extra virgin are more beneficial for health.

The most important thing however as far as health is concerned is the appellation cold pressed which state that the oil was mechanically pressed without heat or chemical treatment.

Olive oil especially in its crude form is better than butter because its fat content is mostly monosaturated .

Therapeutically in his crude form is good for gallbladder, liver as a body tissues strenghthener and a tonic for the nerves. It also increases secretion of the bile.

When fried it' s not so good in fact most Italians for frying use lighter oils obtained from seeds instead of olive oil.

Yea, they are. When I do that I like to season the extra virgin olive oil with sum black pepper. It's really good in my opinion.

A little olive oil for dipping bread, red wine, a few green olives, a snack. Butter is for lobster and artichoke.
