I have a Servis frostfree fridge freezer about 6 years old. It has just defrosted and rd light is flashing.?!

Question: Should I just bin it. It would probably cost more in labours charges than to buy a new one. This is our beer fridge.

My Servis 'fridge freezer did the sam thing, so I decided to chuck it out.

One week later, when I finally got around to doing so, I thought I'd quickly plug it in before taking it to the tip.

Hey presto - one working fridge/freezer. IT just needed a week off, for some reason.

It's been fine ever since.

If it's frost free, it should not build up frost and therefore should not need defrosting.
If it's building up frost, then it's not working correctly. If you decide to bin it, you could instead give it to a charity shop.
If you've had the door open for a prolonged period, that may cause the red warning light to alight.

sounds like its knackered to me!

Medium Dave seems to have hit on the cure. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in, sort of a reboot.

If you have just defrosted the freezer it may be at higher temperature than normal and this is what the red warning light is telling you.

Is there a temperature read out on the fridge? If there is it should read between -18 and -24 deg C. Any temperature above minus 18 will put the fridge into alarm.

Two simple things to check;

that the inside of the freezer is free of ice (never chip off ice with a sharp tool, you can pierce the pipework and de-gas the system.)

the back of the freezer is clear of the wall by at least 2 inches and the grill (condensor fins) are free of dust and not covered up. If the condensor is covered or doesn't have air freely circulating around it, the hot gas from the compressor cannot be cooled to a liquid and the freezer will never reach it's correct operating temperature.

Switch your freezer on and leave it overnight. Check in the morning and you'll probably find that the red light is no longer flashing.
