What is/are Zepalies?!
Answers: On "Everyobody Loves Raymond", they are always eating something called Zepalies. What is this? A desert or a pasta item like calzone? We are very sheltered people living in Southern California. Is this an East Coast thing?
I am a former chef an Zepoiles are a deep fried choux paste like doughnut, cooked in cottonseed oil split and filled with either fresh whipped cream, a whipped cream/custard filling, correct they are sprinkled with powdered sugar.
They are very popular in NYC and the east coast Italian bakerys, but you could find them in good Italian bakerys in any State in the US, here in Canada I have had them here in Toronto in both Italian and Portuguese bakerys.
They are a bit ricky to make at home as you have to pipe the choux paste/cream puff batter on papper, slide into the fryer and cook them like doughnuts, cool them and then fill to your choice of fillings, even a couple of Hunt's Vanilla pudding cups with a couple of dollops of Cool Whip is a reasonable filling.
Bassically they are like a soft dough cooked with powder on it. Very very yummy. You can ask for them at an italian or pizza resturant.
