Why is American food tasteless?!
Answers: Apart from the massive amounts of sugar and fats added.
It isnt tasteless, per say, but probably different to what youre used to.
One thing I will point out is that America eats more processed food than any other country in the world. Lots of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. So when an average American eats food that is rich in nutrients and natural flavors, it's often a shock to them.
I recently went on vacation to visit family in Texas. While there, I decided to make some Cinnamon rolls. I asked my cousin to take me shopping and we were in the dairy isle when I went to get a pound of butter. (She said "We have butter in the house, you dont need to buy any.") I bought it anyway because I knew what she had in her fridge was not butter, but that hydrogenated vegetable oil stuff (Country Crock) and that would just not do.
When we got home, I explained to her the difference between real and "fake" butter. Then I gave her some real butter to try on it's own. "WOW!" she exclaimed. "I can't believe I've been eating that crap for years! (talking about the Country Crock)".
So, it all depends on what you are eating. As a rule, if it has a list of ingredients on the package that lists ingredients that I can't even pronouce, I stay away and go for the natural stuff.
What are you eating thats tasteless? there's plenty of flavors out there you're just not eating the right foods
I'm surprised by your question... I'm over here in England and I swear they dont season anything! I miss our tasty American food!!!!! Even if it is high in fat!! What foods have you tried?? I think you are eating the wrong things!!
Most Americans do not cover their foods with sauces. Sauces cover up the true flavor of meats, fish and etc.
Probably because you lost your taste buds.
if that is what you believe, then you have not had proper american food. leave the mall food court and go see what this country has to offer;
clam chowder, new england or manhattan
chili
biscuits and gravy
southern fried chicken
cobb salad
dungeness crab salad on sourdough in san francisco
fried catfish
the list goes on and on from here
Apparently you have the wrong American cooking for you....
In general, Americans are less into heavily-spiced foods than some cultures, but that is changing as we become more diverse...just one of the great benefits of diversity!
Obviously you have never been in America and if you have been there you have never eaten the wonderful foods to be obtained there a real fusion of all international foods. If you are speaking of fast food emporiums, I don't consider them American as the are an expose of all international foods more like a joke.
American food and cooking is influenced by a wide variety of cultures. What are you eating that is so tasteless? Americans have a large diversity of ethnic backgrounds so there is a large selection of food types from bland to spicy. I think you are tasting the foot you just put in your mouth.
You probably need more variety in your diet if it all tastes bland. Also, if by bland you mean not exotic, that would be because they are what we have grown up on. If you try something from Thailand then it will taste exotic, but to someone who grew up there a burger and friend may seem exotic to them. Some things can be more interesting when you think about it from others perspectives :D
